From Particles to Phases: Analysis of Multiphase Fluid Models

Dates:

  • Monday 14 - Friday 18 December 2026

Organisers:

Venue:

  • Warwick Mathematics Institute, The University of Warwick

Abstract:

Multiphase flows form a natural meeting point for fluid mechanics, kinetic theory, and nonlinear PDEs. Recent developments are revealing new connections between microscopic descriptions, mesoscopic models, and continuum theories, while also highlighting the limitations of existing analytical frameworks. Major challenges include describing interacting phases across different scales, understanding the roles of diffusion, relaxation, and nonlocal effects, and treating regimes involving interfaces, vacuum, or loss of regularity. The conference will bring together researchers working on the analysis and modelling of multiphase systems to exchange perspectives, compare emerging approaches, and identify promising directions for future research.
