You may already know that based on feedback from academic staff, IT Services
plan to migrate the computers in lecture theatres and other teaching rooms
to Windows 7. This migration will mean much shorter login times for these
computers. Users of the machines will be able to select between a Visitor
login (for people without a staff login) and the Staff login. It is
currently being piloted at Ramphal. Please find more information about this
improvement.
One of the keys to making the new teaching computers log in very quickly
is to reduce the number of applications as this is directly linked to log in
speed. We have selected the applications that we understand to be the core
ones across the university. Obviously, there are some applications used
frequently within particular departments, arrangements will be made for
those. But the key thing at this stage is to provide the applications that
are most commonly used.
Amber Thomas would be very grateful if you could view the list of
applications
, and email direct at amber.thomas@warwick.ac.uk with any immediate concerns
by noon on Wednesday 8th May.
Thank you in advance for your help.
