Why loan iPad minis?
Why?
We understand that you may have questions about the rationale for providing students with encrypted iPad minis.
Here is a brief summary of the business case
Providing all students with mini iPads places us in a better position to support our students in areas of high importance, including empowering/enabling students to:
-
Comply with the Protecting Patient Sensitive Information policy (replacing encrypted memory sticks).
-
Develop professional practice, professional identity and digital capability.
-
Have use of a robust up to date device irrespective of personal financial constraints.
-
Record and edit video (replacing requirement to loan video cameras and enabling creativity).
Providing all students with iPads could also lead to a positive impact on other areas of MB ChB practice, examples being:
-
Development of a Communication strategy. New options for dissemination of documents and messages.
-
Develop a deeper level of connectivity with the school when out on placement, part of our One Medical School initiative “students carrying the Medical School with them”.
-
Immediate documentation of feedback. Using iPads enables effective and efficient completion of NHS ePortfolio tickets. Will require raising awareness with staff who tutor and supervise.
-
Workbooks and study guides distributed in digital formats. Including improved support for learning needs/differences.
-
Interactive learning resource development & interactive learning sessions (blended mobile learning).
-
Longitudinal learning activities, of the type that require notifications at key progression points (simulations).
