Meet Ally Caldecote our Outreach Officer

We spoke to Ally Caldecote, our Outreach Officer to find out a bit more about the work she does.

What do you do?

I'm responsible for outreach, public engagement and widening participation in the Physics department.

Why do you do it?

Sharing the abundance of enthusiasm that we have in the department is really important. Science plays such a crucial role in our lives whether it's the development of the world wide web, computer chips or new ways of diagnosing and treating cancer.

What advice would you give your younger self?

Hard work matters much more than natural talent. Stop comparing yourself and get your head down!

What is your favourite thing about your role?

I get to work with lots of different physicists when I visit schools. We show them the amazing research happening here and what scientists are working on at the moment. It's always changing, and always mind boggling!
