Henry Udueni
My name is Henry, and I am a 3rd year Mathematics and Physics student.
Academics and extra-curricular
Early on during my first year and part way through second, I found balancing my academics and extracurricular activities one of the hardest things to do. One tip that helped me and although it sounds cliche was to complete all my assignments as soon as I received them. The few times I completed work at the last minute it reflected in my results. As the term goes on and your schedule gets busier it will help you a lot if you have most of your work completed as soon as possible.
Campus living tips
It can be very intimidating living with people for the first time, however I found having a good network of friends did wonders for me settling in at the start of university. I was fortunate enough to be close with my flat mates during the first year and that really helped me throughout the year. My advice to anyone struggling to adapt to this change would be to put yourself out there. Suggesting small activities to do as a flat can go a long way to building friendships and a sense of community. One thing that my flat had was a dart board in the kitchen and this really helped as we would often have games nights using the board.
Campus life is one of the best parts about studying at Warwick. During term time the campus is so vibrant and welcoming, and it was one of the main things that attracted me to Warwick. The best way to make the most of campus is to get stuck into a community. Whether that be as part of a society, a group of course mates or even housemates. There are always events during the week such as Pop on Wednesdays, sporting events, the Warwick student cinema, these events allow you to explore campus and visit different areas that you would not step in during the week.
Advice for people studying physics
Although it can be challenging at times my advice to students would be to persevere. It is extremely easy to get imposter syndrome when studying physics at such a good university. I have often questioned myself and my academic ability. It is important to remember that you got accepted onto this course for a reason and that is because the department believes you can do it and do it well. Physics is often the most rewarding when you get the answer correct on the hundredth attempt, so patience is key.
