Research title: Energy transport in the solar corona

Education: MMathPhys, University of Warwick 2020-24

Research Overview

Due to the large temperature gradients and low electron densities found within the sun's atmosphere, particularly during solar flares, there are insufficient collisions for classical thermal conduction to apply. Under such conditions, the heat flux becomes non-local and is limited by the low collisionality.

The current best, in terms of accuracy and efficiency, model to treat non-local heat transport is the SNB model which has been used in many fusion based plasma codes. By implementing the SNB model into the Lare solar MHD codes, it is hoped to produce improved simulation and modelling of solar flares.
