Title: From hours and minutes to pounds and pennies. Using choice experiments to estimate the monetary value of children and young people's time.

Abstract: Time is one of the most important resources we have: it is limited, valuable and it plays a role in many of the decisions we make every day. For various reasons, estimating a monetary value for people's time has become a quest for researchers across different disciplines. While it is already difficult to put a price on an adult's time, doing so for children and young people (CYP) is a far greater challenge. In this talk, I will give a 'whistle-stop tour' of a recent programme of research that looks into quantifying the value of CYP's time for use in health economic evaluations. I will summarise completed work packages, highlight ongoing activities, and present the first findings from discrete choice experiments that we carried out to ‘tease out’ the value — in pounds and pennies — that CYP place on their time.
