Information regarding individual APTS weeks, 2009-2010
Below you can find information regarding local arrangements for each APTS week, including contact details, provisional timetables and travel advice. You will be notified by email when important new information appears here relating to an APTS week for which you are registered.
Please note: if you have a query regarding any local arrangements for a given week, you should contact the local organisers (whose details will be listed below nearer the time of the respective APTS week), and not APTS itself.
Week 4: University of Lancaster (6th September 2010 - 10th September 2010)

- Modules: Spatial and Longitudinal Data Analysis (P. Diggle); Nonparametric Smoothing (R. Samworth)
- Travel: Directions to Lancaster University can be found here.
- Accommodation: Accommodation is at Cartmel (near Cartmel College), highlighted on the campus map, with pointers, here. Accommodation is in single en-suite rooms with shared kitchen. There is internet/wi fi access in each room and delegates will just need a laptop and an ethernet cable. The check-in time is between 08:00 to 23:00 at the Conference Centre (pointed here). Check-ins after this time can be made at Security. At check-in delegates will be given their room key, directions to their accommodation and, if applicable, a car parking permit.
- Registration and lectures: Registration for the APTS week will take place between 11.15am and 12.45pm on Monday 6th September 2010 at the ground floor of the Postgraduate Statistics Centre. Lectures will take place in the Biology Lecture Theatre (pointed on the campus map here). Practicals will take place in Labs 1 and 2 of the Postgraduate Statistics Centre, and in Lab A1, in the Engineering building.
- Parking: Car parking information is detailed here. This booklet also contains some other general information for Lancaster University and will also be included in the welcome pack.
- Academy Dinner and special requirements: Please complete this form to verify you attendance to the Academy Dinner on Thursday 9th September 2010, give us your menu choice, and to let us know of any dietary or other special requirements. That form needs to be completed by Tuesday 17th August 2010.
Week 3: University of Bristol (5th July 2010 - 9th July 2010)

- Modules: Applied Stochastic Processes (W. S. Kendall); Computer Intensive Statistics (B. D. Ripley)
- Travel: Directions to University of Bristol can be found here. To get from the main train station (Bristol Temple Meads) to the student accommodation in Clifton Hill House (a map and information may be found here) take bus number 8 (or 8A) from near the station entrance to the Students Union on Queen's Road. Then continue along Queen's Road and take the second left into Clifton Road. Follow Clifton Road along to the junction with Lower Clifton Hill, adjacent to Clifton Hill House.
- Accommodation: Accommodation is in Clifton Hill House at the junction of Lower Clifton Hill and Constitution Hill. Accommodation is in single rooms (most with a hand-basin) with shared kitchen and bathroom facilities on each floor (men/women will be on separate floors). Towels and bed-linen will be provided. There is also the option of Internet access in your rooms for a small fee (please see here for details) but you may also use the computer room in Clifton Hill House for checking emails and browsing. You may check-in and collect your keys at the reception of Clifton Hill House on Monday 9th July between 8.00am and 10.00pm.
- Registration and lectures: All APTS lectures will take place in lecture theatre 2 (LT2) of the Chemistry Building. You may find the location of the Chemistry Building on the interactive map of the University precinct here but there will also be signs giving directions. Registration for the APTS week will take place between 11.15am and 12.45pm on Monday 9th July 2010 at the foyer outside LT2 in the Chemistry building. Computer lab sessions will be in the Merchant Venturers’ Building just opposite Cantock’s Close on Woodland Rd. (you may also find Merchant Venturers’ Building on the interactive map).
- Parking: There is limited room for parking at Clifton Hill House (~20 cars) and parking places will be distributed on a first come first serve basis. Students need to collect a key fob from reception which then can be used to open the car park gates. There is also limited unmetered on-street parking in the area around the University and Clifton Hill House, but spaces can be difficult to find. Students are strongly advised to arrive by public transport.

Week 2: University of Nottingham (19th April 2010 - 23rd April 2010)

- Modules: Statistical Asymptotics (G. A. Young); Statistical Modelling (J. J. Forster)
- Travel: All APTS activities and student accommodation will be in the University Park Campus at the University of Nottingham. Information on how to get to University Park Campus can be found here. A printable PDF map of University Park Campus can be found here.
- Accommodation: The APTS participants will be staying at Hugh Stewart Hall in the University Park Campus (next to building 16 on the Campus map). Accommodation is in single rooms with shared bathroom and kitchen facilities. All bed linen, bath towels and toiletries (a shower gel, shampoo and soap) will be provided. Internet access is available free of charge in each bedroom, however you will need to provide you own ethernet cable. There are also tea and coffee making facilities in the bedrooms. Keys for your room can be collected at the main reception area in Hugh Stewart Hall. The Porter will be on duty until midnight. After that time, there is a free-phone number to ring for security to come and provide your key. For participants who arrive in the 11.15am - 12.45pm window on the Monday, please register before picking up your key.
- Registration and lectures: Registration for the APTS week will take place between 11.15am and 12.45pm on Monday 19th April 2010 at Hugh Stewart Hall at University Park Campus. The registration desk will be located in the main entrance to the Hall. The APTS lectures will be taking place in room C18 at the Pope Building (building 27 on the campus map). Computer labs will be in rooms A15 and A16 in Pope Building.
- Parking: Delegates who are staying in the Hall can obtain a parking permit from the Hall office when they collect their room key. This, when completed with details such as name, conference and hall of residence can be displayed in the car for Security to see, and then parking is free. There are a limited spaces directly outside the Hall but the best place is the car park next to the Sir Clive Granger Building.

Week 1: University of Cambridge (4th January 2010 - 8th January 2010)

- Travel: Information on how to get to University of Cambridge can be found here. On the same website, you can also find a link to a map that shows both the Centre for Mathematical Sciences and Wolfson Court (where most students will be staying). You can zoom in and out on the map, too.
- Accommodation: Most of the APTS participants will be staying at Wolfson Court, which is an outpost of Girton College, and is located about a one minute walk from the Centre for Mathematical Sciences. Some participants will be staying on the main Girton College site, which is about two miles away from the Centre for Mathematical Sciences. Information on how to get to main site of Girton College and information on bus services can be found here. During the APTS week, transport to Wolfson Court will be provided for those staying on the main Girton site before breakfast in the morning, and after APTS activities have finished in the evening. Keys can be collected from the porters' lodge at the place of accommodation. Accommodation is in single rooms with shared bathroom and kitchen facilities. All bed linen and bath towels will be provided. Internet access is available free of charge in each bedroom, however you will need to provide you own ethernet cable or buy one from the porters' lodge for £2.50. For check in on Monday 4 January, the porters' lodge will be open from 10am.
- Registration: Registration for the APTS week will take place between 11.15am and 12.45pm on Monday 4 January 2010 just inside the main entrance to the Centre for Mathematical Sciences.
- Special requirements: Please complete this form by Wednesday 9th December 2009 to inform us of any dietary or other special requirements.
