Ella Kaye has been selected as an SSI Fellow, recognising her as an ambassador for good software practice, and providing a grant and mentorship for nurturing the rainbowR community.

Saranjeet Kaur Bhogal, a Research Software Engineer at Imperial College London, is visiting the department this week. She is working with Heather Turner on updates to the R Development Guide (https://contributor.r-project.org/rdevguide), aimed at contributors to the open-source statistical software R. The department was saddened to hear of the death of Henry Wynn on November 2. Henry was a distinguished statistician and Professor in the Department of Statistics from 1995-2003. He was the founding Director of RISCU, the Department’s Risk and Consultancy Unit, the precursor to the current Applied Statistics and Risk Unit (AS&RU). RIP Henry.

Gengyu Xue, a third year PhD student, has been recently announced as one of the 17 recipients of the IMS 2024 ICSDS Student Travel Award. She is the only UK based recipient this year.

Tom Berrett has been announced as one of the recipients of the European Research Council Starting Grants in 2024.
