Royal Institution Masterclasses
in Data Science 2025
University of Warwick
Applications will open in October 2025
What are the RI Data Science Masterclasses at Warwick?
University of Warwick have been inviting students to attend masterclasses in partnership with the Royal Institution, this year we are hosting the first series of Masterclasses in Data Science! This Series aims to open the eyes of young people to the excitement, beauty and value of data science and statistics, and in turn, inspire the next generation of scientists, mathematicians and engineers.
The Series is delivered by staff and students from the Department of Statistics. Each masterclass focuses on an aspect of modern statistics and data science and is presented by an academic from the Department. The classes take the form of interactive workshop sessions.
Can students from my school get involved?
Local schools (within easy transport to Coventry) are invited to nominate up to 3 year 10 pupils, ensuring a mix of genders in the group of nominated students.
>>>> Schools that have an existing relationship with the University of Warwick throughExperience Warwick or the Lord Bhattacharyya Engineering Education Programmewill be given priority??
Within the field of Statistics and STEM in general, there are under-represented groups. We would like teachers to bear this in mind when selecting their students to nominate. For example, there are fewer female in mathematical sciences, people from lower socio-economic backgrounds, and people of colour (i.e.Black, Asian or minority ethnic groups) in STEM careers.
Successful students will attend the Saturday morning Masterclasses at the Department of Statistics, at the University of Warwick in the spring term. These classes commence on25th January 2025 and finish during British Science Week with a celebration event on15th March 2025.
Teachers and families are invited to this celebration event.
