Your decision
Deciding on your Firm and Insurance choices is a very important decision. Below is information which may help you decide. Also, you may take a look at our Admissions FAQs Link opens in a new windowif you have any questions about the process. Please email the Department of Statistics stats.ug.support@warwick.ac.uk if you have any further questions.
The course structure and information about modules
Studying in one of our degree courses means following your passion for mathematical sciences and combining it with modern applications. An overview of our courses can be found at our Undergraduate pages and the departmental pages for the Data Science, MathStat, and MORSE degrees. Alternatively, this information is included in the online version of our Undergraduate Brochure. Very detailed course guides for our degrees with links to module descriptions can be found on our course handbook pages. Operationally, teaching in 2022/23 will follow the pre-pandemic model, with in-person lectures at the core of the student experience. Students joining in 2023 will benefit from a recently updated curriculum, which has been developed by the department to respond to the latest developments in this modern field.
Research at the Department of Statistics
Warwick Statistics is internationally renowned for wide-ranging and cutting-edge research with applications and impact in many areas in sciences, social sciences, medicine, engineering, management science, finance and commerce. Undergraduate students benefit from this in a number of ways:
- Innovative course design combining mathematics and statistics with modern applications
- A taste of frontier research areas provided in undergraduate modules
- Opportunities to conduct exciting research projects as part of the third and fourth year of Data Science and in the fourth year of MMathStat and MMORSE (for example, some recent 3rd year projectsLink opens in a new window and 4th year projectsLink opens in a new window).
Warwick Statistics is rated 16th in the most recent QS World University RankingsLink opens in a new window. In the most recent national research assessment REF 2021Link opens in a new window, the Warwick Departments of Mathematics and Statistics rank third nationally among Mathematical Sciences research groups for research power and sixth for research quality (Times Higher Education)Link opens in a new window: see details on our website. Information about our full range of research activities and links to research initiatives can be found at our research webpages.
Careers
Some information about possible careers can be found in our Undergraduate Brochure and on our Graduates in Demand page. At our Offer-Holder Visit Days, a manned stand of the Warwick Student Careers will be there for you to engage in discussions about potential career paths after graduation and about the stepping stones such as internships.
TMUA, STEP, AEA and our Entrance Prizes
Mathematics at university is more complex and more rigorous than mathematics at school. We recommend that you get a taste of this by obtaining more practice in mathematical problem solving. An excellent way to do so is to prepare for TMUA, STEP, or AEA in Mathematics. Any time that you spend preparing for such papers will help you with the transition to university-level mathematics. At the same time, after having practiced these harder questions, you should feel even more confident in answering standard A-level questions, thereby boosting your A-level performance. More about the motivation and practicalities regarding and about our prize for an outstanding result can be found on our Admissions test pageLink opens in a new window.
Departmental Offer-Holder Open Days at Warwick Statistics
Offer-Holder Open Days for 2023 entrants will be held on 9th January 2023 (for early applicants) and 27th and 28th March 2023. These days are designed to give you a better idea of the range of possible "real world" applications of modern mathematics, and an insight into what our students and their lecturers/professors actually do. It will also include a talk by a lecturer based on some recent A-level and STEP-paper questions. (We do strongly encourage offer holder to take STEP papers if at all possible: see below.) There will be various opportunities to meet members of staff, to ask questions about courses and campus life, and to talk to students who are already here.
These departmental events are for our offer-holders only. Our aim is to provide a memorable day of activity to inspire you, as well as helping you to decide whether Warwick Statistics is the best place for your degree course. Our students are extremely important to the life of the department; if you do come to study here, we want you to be sure your choice was the right one for you.
For applicants who are not able to attend on these days, we will be holding virtual events on April 17th and 18th.
