Professor Chris Anderson (Chair)

Chris Anderson is a Professor in European Politics and Policy at the European Institute, London School of Economics and a former Professor of Politics and Economics at Warwick. He also is a Research Associate at the Centre for Competitive Advantage in the Global Economy (CAGE).

As a researcher and teacher, Chris works at the intersection of politics and economics. His research focuses on the micro-foundations of markets and democracy and examines how economic and political structures shape citizens’ judgements and behaviours.

Rachana Shanbhogue

Rachana joined The Economist in 2017 as a business correspondent and writes about Europe’s economies. Previously she worked at the Bank of England, where she covered the UK labour market, Asian economies, and policy communication. She holds an MPhil and a BA in Economics from King’s College, Cambridge.

Stephen Kinnock MP

Stephen Kinnock has been the Labour Member of Parliament for Aberavon since 2015 and is a member of the Select Committee on Exiting the European Union. He also chairs the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Post-Brexit Funding for Nations, Regions and Local Areas, the APPG on Reuniting Britain Post-Brexit, and the APPG on Electoral Campaigning Transparency, while he is Vice Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group for Steel and Metal Related Industries. Stephen is the author of ‘A New Nation: Building a United Kingdom of Purpose, Patriotism and Resilience’, Policy Press (2015) and co-author of ‘Spirit of Britain, Purpose of Labour’, Labour Future Ltd (2018)

Alicia Kearns

In 2017 Alicia Kearns stood in Mitcham and Morden, delivering the best result for the Conservatives since 1987, and bucking the trend of losses in London. Alicia is an expert in countering violent extremism, countering disinformation and hybrid warfare interventions. During her career Alicia has worked for the UK’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office, where she led UK Government interventions in Syria and Iraq, and advised over 70 Governments on how to defeat the terrorist group Daesh (ISIS), insurgent groups, and counter malign state disinformation efforts.

Alicia is regularly interviewed in the media as an expert on national threats, including by BBC Radio 4, the Daily Telegraph, The Times, Sunday Times, the Guardian, and the Financial Times. Alicia grew up in Cambridgeshire, attending her local comprehensive school before going on to study at Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge where she gained a degree in Social and Political Sciences.

Kulbir Shergill

Kulbir is an accomplished diversity and social inclusion professional with wide cross sector experience of working in fast moving and challenging environments. She has a proven ability to contribute to a company at strategic and operational levels, currently Director for Social Inclusion at the University of Warwick.

With more than 20 years experience, Kulbir is focussed on working with companies to achieve change for clients, customers and staff through effective relationship building and engagement on issues of diversity and social inclusion at senior levels. Empowering personal commitment and a strategic approach to embedding cultural change for greater inclusion.

Kulbir has worked with a wide range of organisations including KPMG, Grant Thornton, Local Government and major third sector organisations. Helping them to achieve external and internal recognition for providing inclusive services and being employer of choice

Remi Trovo (Year 2, BA Hons Politics and International Studies)

In a world full of opposing views and misinformation, it is important to be able to distinguish between fact and fiction as much as possible. For me, the most effective ways of doing this are reading up on a subject and engaging in constructive debate. My membership of the Warwick Politics society and the Warwick UN society have given me good opportunities to do these things. My previous public speaking experience includes taking part in numerous debating competitions and a Question Time that was jointly hosted by the Warwick Economics and PAIS Departments in January 2018

Paula Bejarano Carbo (Year 3, BSc Hons Philosophy, Politics and Economics)

As a PPE student I enjoy approaching topics from an interdisciplinary perspective, understanding that world issues are not as clear-cut as theory may suggest. My roles in my school MUN Club as a delegate, chair and conference manager, as well as a member of two Executive Committees at Warwick have provided me with ample public speaking experiences. As a delegate and chair in MUN conferences, I frequently spoke in rooms of up to 200 other delegates, and proudly received a Best Delegate award at one conference.
