Econometrics Summer Masterclass and Workshop

The Econometrics Summer Workshop and Masterclass, jointly organised by Mingli Chen, Luis E. Candelaria, and the Econometrics and Labour Research Group, took place from 30th May to 1st June at the University of Warwick. The topic of this year's event was the Econometrics of Network Models.

The workshop featured seminar talks by invited speakers: Aureo de Paula (UCL), Bryan Graham (UC Berkeley), Michael Leung (USC), and Konrad Menzel (NYU). From 31st May to 1st June, Bryan Graham gave a masterclass on network analysis which featured both theoretical and applied topics.

More than 40 attendees including faculty and PhD students from different universities benefited from the energetic environment to discuss and exchange ideas on various topics of network analysis.

Postgraduate Photographs and Social

On Tuesday 29 May, we held the annual Postgraduate class photo and also welcomed nearly 200 of our MSc and MRes/PhD students to the annual Economics Postgraduate Social. Staff and students from the Department enjoyed a 3 course dinner, drinks, disco and a fun photo booth to celebrate the end of their studies at Warwick before going away to complete dissertations.

Staff Recognition Scheme - May's Nominations

Joint Programmes Coordinator Vacancy

The Department are looking to recruit a Coordinator to manage the undergraduate joint degree teaching programmes. Details of the job description can be found on the job advert here, which has been posted to University's internal vacancies webpage.

The closing date for applications is 19 June with the interview date set for 11 July 2018.  

Merit Pay Scheme 2017/2018

The merit pay scheme for 2018 has now been launched for all staff in grades FA1-FA8. Nominations should be made by Line Managers. Nominations should be forwarded to Lisa Hayes, HR Officer by Friday 6 July 2018. Further information about the Merit Pay scheme can be found here.

Senior Performance Salary Remuneration Review (SPRR) 2017/2018

The Senior Performance and Remuneration Review for 2018 has now been launched for all Professorial Staff and Senior Professional staff at FA9. This is a self nomination process.

Should you wish to self nominate, please complete the nomination form (found by clicking here) and forward to Jeremy Smith (cc’d to Lisa Hayes) by Friday 6 July 2018.

PDR - submission deadline of 20 July 2018

The PDR window is now open and will run until 20 July 2018. As we have commited to try to increase participation in the PDR scheme in our Athena Swan submission and in our Pulse Action Plan, your involvement in the process is encouraged. Please click on the link here to learn more about the process and to action the PDR form.

The deadline for all submissions is 20 July 2018. Please send all completed PDR forms to Lisa Hayes, HR Officer in the first instance.

New Fire Awareness Training Module

The University has launched a new online Fire Awareness Training module and is asking for all staff to complete the training. The module covers an introduction insight into fire safety awareness on campus. You can access the online module in Moodle by clicking here and it shouldn't take more than 10 minutes to complete.

Summer Term - Staff Buffet Lunch

In the Summer Term, Staff Buffet Lunch will take place on Thursdays in weeks 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9. Room S2.79, 12.30pm-1.30pm. PhD and MRes Students will be invited to join in Weeks 1 & 9.

Lunchtime Tennis, Wednesdays from 12.00-1.00pm

We have booked out a couple of tennis courts at Lakeside Tennis Courts for the next 5 weeks (until 11 July). If you are interested in attending on your lunch break, please email Charlotte White charlotte dot white at warwick dot ac dot uk.

Mark Harrison gave the St Catharine’s Foundation lecture on the subject of "The Soviet economy: the late 1930s in historical perspective" to the annual conference of the Centre for Russian, European, and Eurasian Studies of the University of Birmingham, held at Cumberland Lodge, Windsor Great Park on the 1st June 2018.

Jonathan Cave will be in Brussels representing the Regulatory Policy Committee, holding discussions with the EC’s Regulatory Scrutiny Board, participating in their annual workshop and meeting with heads of analogous European bodies in RegWatch Europe on 4-5th June 2018. He will also be co-organising and speaking at the 2nd Annual Transatlantic Symposium on ICT and Policy in Washington DC on 19-20 June.

Andrew Oswald presented his paper “Workplace Diversity and Black-White Social Relations” at the 23rd Spring Meeting of Young Economists on 30th May in Spain and at the 7th IRES Graduate Student Workshop on 9th June in California.

Daniel Sgroi presented “The Effect of Positive Mood on Cooperation in Repeated Interaction” at the Birmingham Experimental Workshop on Social Preference on Friday 1st June.

Sascha O. Becker and Thiemo Fetzer organised a workshop on "Globalisation and Populism: Past and Present" within the CESifo Venice Summer Institute on Monday 4th June and Tuesday 5th June. The keynotes were given by David D. Laitin, Stanford University, Dani Rodrik, Harvard University, and Kevin Hjortshoj O' Rourke, University of Oxford.

Arun Advani presented "The Dynamic Effects of Tax Audits" at the Workshop on Empirical Analysis of Tax Compliance, hosted by Oslo Fiscal Studies at the University of Oslo.
