Comparison of Direct and Proportional Mapping
Excel spreadsheet comparing Direct and Proportional Mappings, where - importantly - the Proportional Mapping uses proportions based on a different dataset (IDBR) to the dataset targeted by the Direct mapping (LFS). (However, it should also be admitted that the LFS Direct mapping did use the IDBR Proportional mapping as its starting point.)
This spreadsheet uses data on Unemployment by Last Industry of Employment as an example to compare the impact of the two mappings. As noted in the spreadsheet Information Tab, 'filtering' on Last Industry and in particular on Unemployment exaggerates differences in the mappings, largely because (on the basis of the available data sample) these filters tend to remove some industries from the sample. However, for most industries, the two mappings give very or fairly similar results.
