Warwick Alumnus appointed Queen’s Counsel

Gurdeep Garcha, who read Law at Warwick from October 1992 to June 1995 was informed on the 15 January 2020 that Her Majesty the Queen had approved the Lord Chancellor’s recommendation that he be appointed Queen’s Counsel. Gurdeep will be formally be sworn in as silk at the Palace of Westminster on the 16 March 2020.

Local residents entertained, challenged and moved by Festival of Social Science

More than 500 people took part in the workshops, talks and activities organised by the University of Warwick for this year’s Festival of Social Science.

University researchers took to Coventry and Warwickshire’s streets, bars and community centres to share insights from their work and found an enthusiastic and interested audience.

Warwick Law student awarded Freshfields Stephen Lawrence Scholarship

First year Warwick law student Daniel Nwanebu has been awarded the 2019 Freshfields Stephen Lawrence Scholarship.

The Scheme was devised to address the disproportionate under-representation of black men from less privileged backgrounds in large commercial law firms and the City of London.

Black History Month Exhibition

This summer, Dr Sharifah Sekalala, Associate Professor at Warwick Law School asked our staff to come up with suggestions of books that have influenced their thinking on race, especially with regard to the law. We had some ideas of what books they might suggest, however their selections were a much more eclectic mix of books, podcasts and even music than we had expected.
