Dr Dallal Stevens to visit Brussels to give a policy briefing 16.02.16 - Crossing the Mediterranean by Boat
Dr Dallal Stevens is visiting Brussels with a cross faculty team to attend a policy briefing session where they will be informing policy makers about their initial findings for the ESRC Grant Crossing the Mediterranean by Boat : Mapping and Documenting Migratory Journey and Experiences. First Max Planck Symposium on Child Law in Muslim Countries Publication dedicated to Professor Shaheen Sardar Ali
The School of Law would like to congratulate Professor Shaheen Sardar Ali, the special symposium issue of the First Max Planck Symposium on Child Law in Muslim Countries published by the American Journal of Comparative Law (2015) Volume 63 has been dedicated to Professor Shaheen Sardar Ali. The citation at p. 827 reads:
"This symposium issue is dedicated to Shaheen Sardar Ali in appreciation of her inspiring scholarly
work and her profound humanity."
GREAT Britain Scholarship Scheme - India
The University of Warwick is pleased to announce its involvement with the GREAT Britain scholarship scheme on offer to students from India, wishing to study taught Masters degrees.
The Law School is offering one award of £6000 across all our LLM programmes. To apply you must be an Indian national residing in India and not in receipt of any other funding. Further details can be found on the International Office webpages.

MSP Scholar receives Commonwealth's International Award for Dynamic Leadership and Service to Young People
One of our 2nd year MSP scholars, Messeh Leone, was the recipient of the Commonwealth's International Award for Dynamic Leadership and Service to Young People. He received his award at a special award ceremony in Malta in November 2015 as part of the Commonwealth Youth Forum which took place on the fringes of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM).
Sharifah Sekalala - 'The emerging norm of global representation in global health'
Sharif Sekalala is presenting a paper at a workshop on 'The emerging norm of global representation in global health' as part of 'Brown University's international Advanced Research Institute' which is focusing on global health in Madrid from the 10th - 16th of January 2016. Click here to read on.
Areas being discussed are politics of health care provision in the era of globalization. What are the bases of health policymaking in different countries and contexts? How does health care provision play out on the ground in particular places? Which public, private, and civil society organizations are involved and to what effect? What roles do international organizations and agencies play in health care funding, provision, and agenda-setting? Where do scientists, and scientific agencies, fit in? And how do the norms governing health care provision evolve over space and time?
What is the measure of universality? Critical reflections on International criminal justice, the Nuremberg principles, ICC and pluralist Islamic legal traditions
Shaheen Sardar Ali was an invited panelist at an international conference organised by the Nuremberg Academy, Germany to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the start of the Nuremberg Trials (19 to 21 November 2015). She presented a paper entitled: 'What is the measure of ‘universality’? Critical reflections on International criminal justice, the Nuremberg principles, ICC and pluralist Islamic legal traditions.' Shaheen Sardar Ali was invited to present a paper entitled: 'In Search of Authority and Authenticity? Visitor to GLOBE
Dr Lorenzo Cotula, Principal Researcher at the International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED), joined us from October as GLOBE’s first Visiting Research Fellow. Lorenzo delivered a stimulating research seminar on Wednesday, 2 December on ‘Land Grabbing’ and International Investment Law: Towards A Global Reconfiguration of Property?’. Lorenzo will be with the Centre for this academic year, 2015 – 16. Although based in Edinburgh, Lorenzo will be making visits to Warwick during this period and happy to meet with staff and students. We will let you know when he will visiting us next. Lorenzo and the IIED are also co-organising our first workshop in the International Law in Context Workshop Series on Rethinking International Investment Law: Civic Advocacy, Representation and Participation in the International Investment Regime from 3 – 4 May 2016 (see details below).
Dora Kostakopoulou to speak at Durham European Law Institute Lecture Seminar Series
Dora Kostakopoulou is to speak at the Durham European Law Institute's lunchtime seminar series. Dora's seminar, titled 'When Tomorrow is Yesterday: the Manufacturing of an EU Referendum', will take place on Tuesday 8 December at the University of Durham.
Ben Farrand gives invited talk at City University London's Institute for the Study of European Laws
On Wednesday 25 November, Ben Farrand gave a lecture on the public policy dimension of the EU's unitary patent at City University London. In this talk, Ben highlighted the importance of awareness of the public policy drivers of the EU's intellectual property strategy, and the renewed impetus that economic crisis has given to the single market agenda.
