Workshop: Living Through Climate Change (I)

I-PEEL Workshop I: Introduction

29 February, 2024

9:00 – 11:00 (UK) / 17:00 - 19:00 (Malaysia) / 20:00 – 22:00 (Australia)

Online

Do we work for social media? Why do we go into debt? How is desire manufactured in fast fashion? How are our diets governed? Who owns what in the sharing economy? I-PEEL: The International Political Economy of Everyday Life foregrounds our daily experiences of the global economy as a valuable entry point into the study of IPE.

In this workshop, we will introduce the I-PEEL approach and explore how to use it for studying the intersections of your daily experiences of climate change with the broader contours of the global political economy. How can a focus on everyday objects or practices inspire broader questions about politics, economics, and the environment? How can we analyze and discuss these questions collaboratively? How to begin to create your own I-PEEL content?

You will meet the organizers of the project and the other students involved. You will further receive practical guidance on the next steps in this project: from selecting your own research topics, to doing collaborative research, to presenting the results of your research at the next workshop.
