International Society for the Systems Sciences (ISSS) visit to Warwick

The President and members of the International Society for the Systems Sciences (ISSS) visited to Warwick on July 10th, 2025.

The team met with students as well as members of the PEACERETURN team led by Professor Neophytos Loizides as well as Professor Gwen van der Velden former Deputy Pro Vice Chancellor (Education). Also attending Yiannis Laouris (incoming President of ISSS), Zach Fischer (University of Warwick), Zora Kizilyurek (Newcastle University), Kevin Dye (former Director of the Massachusetts Office of Dispute Resolution) and Margaret Heath (member of the UK Cybernetics Society).

The ISSS delegation shared their insights as to how system theory could help address complex questions on peace reconstruction and resilience, international mediation, and support of IDPs and refugees particularly in decisions of potential returnees in the context of peace arrangements (PEACERETURN project). The International Society for the Systems Sciences focuses on the study of the nature of complex systems and the application of systems approaches for transformative social, political and other changes. ISSS held its annual conference at Birmingham University in July 2025.
