About us

PAIS is one of the largest UK Politics departments. We host about 70 permanent academic staff, with half teaching modules. We cover core fields of the discipline, including International relations, International political economy, Political theory, and Comparative politics, which is reflected in our 10 MA degrees.

We believe in pluralism--conceptual, theoretical and methodological. This enables students to gain in-depth knowledge into their chosen field of study, and to be exposed to a variety of complementary approaches.

We also have a clear international outlook that is reflected in both our specialisms and staff and student population. Come and study with us and you will be able to interact with peers from all regions and academic systems, which is a key asset in a quickly-evolving, globalised world.

Our research and our teaching are relevant to cutting-edge academic debates and to concrete public policies. This is reflected in the professional journeys of our alumni(ae), who enjoy coming back and talking to current students.
