Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) Midlands4Cities DTP

The Midlands4Cities DTP is funding and training the next generation of highly skilled arts and humanities researchers through PhD Scholarships. Led by the University of Nottingham, our consortium of eight partners are present in the four cities of Nottingham, Birmingham, Leicester and Coventry.

Fee status: Home/International

Value: M4C Scholarships provide 3.5 years of UKRI level maintenance grant, fees and enhanced support for professional development training to successful doctoral candidates.

Deadline: 13th January 2021 at noon - Applications for 2021/2022 entry scholarships are now OPEN.

Chancellor's International Scholarships

Fee status eligibility: overseas and EU

Value: Covers full payment of academic fees, a UKRI level stipend and a Research Training and Support Grant (RTSG)

Accepted departments: all departments.

Deadline: 21 January 2021 (23:59 GMT). No late applications will be accepted.

For 2021/2022 entry there will be up to 42 Chancellor's International Scholarships available to be awarded to the most outstanding Overseas and EU PhD applicants.

Applications for 2021/2022 scholarships are now OPEN.

China Scholarship Council (CSC) / University of Warwick Scholarships

The University is delighted to announce the China Scholarships Council (CSC) / University of Warwick Scholarships. For entry in Autumn 2021, there will be 25 scholarships available to students who meet the CSC crtieria applying to any PhD discipline.

The scholarships will fund students for up to 4 years with the University covering the full cost of tuition fees and CSC providing a maintenance stipend and return international airfare between the UK and China.

Deadline: 21 January 2021, 23.59 GMT.

Economic & Social Research Council (ESRC) Midlands Graduate School

Led by Warwick, the Midlands Graduate School consortium of six partner institutions offers 17 different training pathways that span the social science disciplines.

Fees status: Home/EU/International.

From the 2021/22 academic year UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) funding is open to both UK and International research students as detailed on the UKRI website. Awards for both UK residents and International applicants cover UK tuition fees and provide a stipend at the standard UKRI rate to support living costs. UKRI funding will not cover international fees. Funding for this may be available from other sources but specific guidance on this is currently not available. Please watch out for updated information on our website. UKCISA provides information on tuition fees to help you assess your fee status.

Value: MGS Scholarships provide 1+3 years (MA and PhD) or between 3 and 4 years (direct PhD) of UKRI level maintenance grant, fees and enhanced support for professional development training to successful doctoral candidates.

Deadline: The competition for pathway-specific ESRC Doctoral Training Partnership studentships commencing in October 2021 is now open! The deadline for applications is Tuesday 26th January 2021.

Students can only submit one funding application to the MGS DTP and cannot apply for pathway funding at multiple MGS DTP institutions.

EUTOPIA PhD Scholarships

Co-tutelle PhD Scholarships 2020

In partnership with CY Cergy Paris University, a number of PhD scholarships are available in 2020 to enable promising researchers to be jointly supervised in order to complete their PhD. PhD candidates will have one supervisor at Warwick and another at CY Cergy Paris University and spend at least 12 months in each institution. Successful candidates will enter into an agreement governing the joint supervision of their PhD with Warwick and CY Cergy Paris University.

The scholarships, which are available to students from all disciplines, will cover payment of tuition fees, provide a stipend and support reasonable travel and research expenses.

Deadline: The deadline for applications is Monday 20th April 2020.

International Scholarships

There are a number of scholarships schemes available for international students, both internal and external to the University.

Monash Warwick Alliance Joint PhD Scholarships (Warwick)

The Monash Warwick Alliance Scholarships (Warwick) are open to all students applying to Warwick for the Alliance Joint PhD. For 2021/22 entry there will be up to 3 scholarships available to be awarded to the most outstanding PhD applicants.

Value: Full payment of tuition fees, a maintenance stipend in line wtih UKRI rates for the two years spent at Warwick, and in line with Australian government rates for the year spent at Monash. A travel allowance of £2,000 during the lifetime of the PhD.

Eligibility: Applications are welcome from students of any nationality applying to Warwick for the Alliance Joint PhD. Only new students who will begin their PhD in Autumn 2021 are eligible.

Deadline: Thursday 21st January 2021, 23.59 GMT.

Postgraduate Loan Scheme-Doctoral Courses

Students applying for a PhD starting in 2020/2021 can apply for a loan of up to £26,455 as a contribution towards course and living costs. Postgraduate Loans have to be paid back.

Warwick Postgraduate Sanctuary Scholarships

For 2021/22 we will offer up to two fully funded scholarships for postgraduate research students, and up to three fully funded scholarships for postgraduate taught students. These scholarships are offered as part of the Warwick Sanctuary Scholarships at the University of Warwick.

PGR Sanctuary Scholarship Deadline: Applications for 2021/22 entry will open on 12th November 2020.

PGT Sanctuary Scholarship Deadline: Applications for 2021/22 entry will open on 12th November 2020.

Value: Covers fees and an UKRI level stipend.

Eligibility: These scholarships will be awarded to students of any nationality who hold one of the statuses listed below as granted by the UK government:

  • Refugee if assessed as overseas paying student (Home/EU fees are not eligible)
  • Asylum seeker
  • Definite Leave to Remain as a result of an asylum seeker application
  • Indefinite Leave to Remain as a result of an asylum seeker application
  • Humanitarian protection as a result of an asylum seeker application

and/or whom are academics supported by the Council for At-Risk Academics (CARA)
