Italy's National Emergency with Illegal Immigrants Result of Rigid Immigration Policy
The Italian Government is expected to declare a state of nation-wide emergency in response to the arrival of 1,000 Kurdish boat people in Sicily. Research by Dr Paolo Ruspini of the University of Warwick’s Centre for Research in Ethnic Relations believes that this reaction is a result of Italy’s rigid immigration policies.
Researchers Warn Government: Stop Pushing Private Pension Schemes
“For forty years, British governments have sporadically pursued the chimera of private schemes replacing state provision” said Professor Noel Whiteside, University of Warwick, Zurich Financial Services Fellow. “This strategy must be abandoned and a permanent negotiated settlement between public and private obligations put in place, to restore confidence.” Her remarks come from a conference on Friday 8th March organised by pensions researchers from the University of Warwick and Oxford.

Churchill Considered 1950's Plan for European Single Currency - where France would Peg
Recent work by Dr Peter Burnham, of the University of Warwick's Department of Politics and International Studies, has shown that a 1952 plan considered by Churchill and his cabinet to resolve the UK's balance of payments problems came close to producing a de facto single currency area based on several currencies from former British colonies and European countries (including the French Franc) being pegged to Sterling.
Language Centre balloon race piles up foreign coins for charity before euro makes them defunct
As part of the European Year of Languages, the University of Warwick's Language Centre is organising a special charity balloon race to gather in locally held foreign coins and currency before many of those currencies are made defunct by the Euro.
