Introduction to UK Parliament
Overview:
This half-day workshop will enable you to gain an understanding of how parliament and government work and the opportunities available to engage with parliamentarians and civil servants.
The workshop is held at the Palace of Westminster in London and is delivered by the Industry and Parliamentary Trust (IPT).

Sign-up process:
- 16 October 2024 - register your interest by noon on this date and you will be notified soon thereafter whether or not you have secured a space.
- Places will be allocated on a 'first come, first served basis' and are limited to three participants per academic department.
Enables Participants To:
- Gain an overview of Parliament - including a tour of the Palace of Westminster (subject to parliamentary business)
- Gain an overview of the legislation process and the opportunities available for influencing policy
- Gain an understanding of the role of Ministers and Special Advisers
- Identify the best ways strategies for engaging Civil Servants
- Gain an understanding on the role of Select Committees and the opportunities available for getting involved with them
Additional Information:
- Please note that this has historically been a heavily-subscribed opportunity and places are very limited, so please only register your interest if you are fully committed to attending.
- Participants will need to make their own travel arrangements and approach their department in the first instance for travel expenses, but support for travel expenses may be available. Please contact the Impact TeamLink opens in a new window to discuss this.
- In order to fully engage with and benefit from this training, participants will have a basic understanding of research impact. To support this, participants are encouraged to first attend the Introduction to Impact training webinar - next one 24 October 2024.
