Following on from the very well attended Technician Update on 13 February, we asked for your ideas for the next series of Focus Groups. We have three Focus Group dates arranged around campus during March and we intend to cover the same topics at each, so please only sign up for one.

The topics that seemed most popular and that we will cover at each of these events are as follows:

Technician Roles and Visibility – attracting the right people, flexibility in role and how to gain recognition from senior management and others

Dealing with others – academics, supervising students and engaging technicians

Career development – Training and development and promotion of opportunities for technicians

Technician Commitment Champion – ideas so far

There are three key areas which we hope will give us ideas for how we can build our action plan for the next three years plus the important issue of the Technician Commitment Champions and how they will help us to shape the future.

We invite 10-15 individuals to each focus group and can provide further dates if these are over-subscribed.

At the focus groups we will brainstorm each of the topics (for around 15 minutes each) so please come prepared to give us your thoughts and ideas. Following on from this we will put your ideas into actions within the plan. We may also want to engage you further with follow-on group discussions.
