National Student Survey 2024

The National Student Survey (NSS) will be launched to undergraduate finalists at Warwick on 5 February 2024. The NSS is a nationally recognised annual survey of nearly half a million students across the UK, which is managed by the Office for Students (OfS) and undertaken by Ipsos on behalf of the UK funding and regulatory bodies. Every university, and many colleges and alternative providers, in the UK take part.

The survey provides students with an opportunity to give their honest opinions on what they have found helpful on their course, as well as things that they feel could have been improved. In turn, this helps to:

  • Inform prospective students' choices
  • Supply data that supports providers in improving the student experience.
  • Support public accountability.

All participants complete a core set of questions covering the following themes: teaching; learning opportunities; marking and assessment; academic support; organisation and management; learning resources; student voice; mental wellbeing services; and freedom of expression. There is also an opportunity for students to give a free-text reflection on their experience overall.

All departments should now have received a list of students who we believe are in their final year of an undergraduate course. These need to be carefully checked and returned to EPQ by 27 November at the latest. Guidance has been provided in dedicated departmental Teams spaces and via a short guidance video. Alternatively, colleagues can request further support with target list checking here.

Like last year, we must receive a minimum of 10 respondents and 50% response rate from eligible students for course level and departmental level results to be published. Over the next couple of months, we will be in contact again to discuss campaign planning and share best practice to help departments encourage participation and achieve a high response rate. Throughout the fieldwork period, we will continue to provide targeted guidance for departments who need additional support.

In the meantime, if you have any questions at all about NSS 2024, please visit our dedicated webpage or contact a member of our team. We are happy to help.
