Education Policy and Quality


The University is responding to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on teaching, learning and assessment (TLA). The EPQ team are supporting the integrated institutional effort around TLA, which is being led by the Education Executive. University staff can find the latest information about changes to TLA in the weekly staff newsletters. You can access the archive of newsletters online here. Also, the University's dedicated microsite for Coronavirus / Covid-19 has a section focused on Teaching Continuity.

While the EPQ webpages will largely continue to host 'steady-state' regulations, conventions and guidance, some of these have been updated where interim measures or planned policy changes have been brought forward. These include:

Course/module approval

Information about the course and module approval process, including an overview, access to the new online approval systems and existing forms to download and complete.


Information about examination conventions and mark scales. Advice about encouraging good academic conduct. Guidance on giving feedback on assessment to students.


Information about institutional teaching and learning review and annual course review, including report forms to download.

Credit and Module Framework

Review of Assessment

The University is currently conducting a Review of Assessment led by Professor David Lamburn, Deputy PVC (Education) and work is ongoing in five sub-groups dealing with issues such as assessment strategies, academic integrity (plagiarism and cheating), mitigating circumstances, reasonable adjustments, progression requirements, remedying failure, timing of examinations and examination board procedures.
