Meet Education Policy and Quality - Abi Taylor

What is your role and what are you responsible for?

My role is Operations Administrator and PA to the Director of Education Policy and Quality, Dan Derricott. I am part of the Operations Team in EPQ, so I help out with a range of administration tasks, and also manage Dan's diary.

How long have you worked at Warwick, and what did you do before that?

I have worked at Warwick since June 2018. I previously worked for the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) as the Assessment Team Supervisor. I worked there for eight years, and left when I went on maternity leave as they moved to Birmingham. Luckily, I then got the job at Warwick.

What does a typical day look like?

My day-to-day work consists of staff recruitment and HR admin, arranging meetings, making sure Dan has time to breathe between meetings (not always possible!), paying invoices, booking travel, answering queries from the team, keeping SuccessFactors up to date... and the list goes on.

What is your favourite thing about your role?

How diverse it is, every day is different!

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

Being with my family. I have a wonderful husband and two beautiful daughters - and my mum and dad aren't bad, either! We all spend a lot of time together, and I'm very grateful for that.

What is your favourite film?

I'm very into films. Picking a favourite is too hard, I have so many! It literally ranges from Grease to Stand By Me (classics). I love Coach Carter, all of the Harry Potter films, Mean Girls, and then there are Christmas films... (I'll stop now!)

If you could teleport anywhere right now, where would you go?

Somewhere hot - one of the huts on the sea in Bora Bora would do.

Cats or dogs? Tea or coffee? City or countryside?

Dogs 100% - although I actually have a cat. Tea over coffee, and I like a mix of both city and country.

What advice would you give your 18-year-old self?

Be more confident in yourself.
