Meet Education Policy and Quality - Gabriella Bersanetti

What is your role and what are you responsible for?

I'm a Senior Policy Advisor (Education) and sit within EPQ's Education Policy and Governance team delivering on a diverse portfolio of projects alongside BAU. This includes support and guidance to Faculty (Social Sciences) colleagues for operationalising relevant University regulations and education policy. I am also Secretary to the Social Sciences Faculty Board and Faculty Education Committee.

How long have you worked at Warwick, and what did you do before that?

I joined Warwick in 2018 after leaving my role at the University of Birmingham. Prior to that, I was living in Italy and working for the University of Bologna.

What projects are you currently working on, and what's coming up?

I was Secretary to an ITLR Review Panel and I've been supporting departments throughout MAB, which will continue. I'll also be supporting the Academic Governance Review and contributing to the Reform of Academic Regulations project.

What does a typical day look like?

It's a busy and varied role, but a typical day involves meetings, supporting departments, responding to queries/emails and, depending on the time of year, project and committee work.

What's your favourite thing about your role?

Working with great colleagues.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

I love spending time with my family and friends outside of work - I have two young children, who keep me particularly busy.

What is your favourite book, and your favourite film?

I don't think I have a particular favourite book or film, but I really like George Orwell's 1984 [a second vote for 1984 from a member of the EPQ team] and Roberto Benigni's film 'La Vita è Bella' (Life is Beautiful).

If you could teleport anywhere right now, where would you go?

To a beautiful beach on a tropical island.

Cats or dogs? Tea or coffee? City or countryside?

Dogs, coffee, and I like a mix of both city and countryside.

What advice would you give your 18-year-old self?

Just enjoy it all and don't worry too much!
