Reverend Dr Stuart Jennings, Free Church Chaplain

Revd Dr Stuart Jennings was appointed by the Methodist, URC and Baptist Churches as Full Time Free Church Chaplain to serve across both Warwick and Coventry Universities in 2006. A convert to the Christian faith at the age of 19, he has subsequently served for over 30 years both as a Methodist minister and chaplain to a number of British universities. He has an interest in Christian spirituality and has organised world-wide Christian retreats in Assisi, the Holy Land and the major Celtic Christian centres across the UK. He is a coordinator for the student 'Summer of service" volunteer scheme, where students live with a host family (Jewish, Christian or Muslim) in Palestine and Israel and undertake voluntary work in schools, community centres, refugee camps and peace projects.

A long time commitment to Multi-Faith dialogue has led him to serve as a Trustee on Coventry Multi-Faith Forum (since 2007) and formerly on the Leicester Council of Faiths. He has also presented papers on Multi-Faith themes at Higher Ediucation World conferences held in Tampere, Finland (2009), and Yale University in the US (2012). He is also a trained bereavement support worker, specialising in children, young adults and the grieving process.

Stuart was awarded his doctorate (PhD) for research in Early Modern British History [specialising in the British Civil Wars of the seventeenth century] and he has published numerous 'peer reviewed' academic articles, three books and contributed six entries to the new Oxford Dictionary of National Biography (DNB). He has served for five years as academic Director and lecturer on the Certificates in Historical Studies and Local History ran by the University of Warwick Centre for Lifelong Learning. Currently he is serving as academic advisor for the new National English Civil War Museum opening at Newark upon Trent in 2015. He is married to Carol and they have two grown up children; Emily and John.
