20/21 Intern

Hi, I'm Sophie! I interned with the CVEP team and Students' Union over summer 20/21.

The CVEP internship allowed me to gain lots of valuable experience, while also making Warwick a better place. I worked two days a week with the SU on the #WeGetConsent campaign and three days a week in the CVEP team working on a few different projects such as the Active Bystander Intervention Programme and the Say my Name project. Being part of these two teams meant that I got to meet and collaborate with people from across the university such as student officers, society execs, SU staff and various teams such and Report and Support and the Dean of Students’ office. I also got to learn about how the two different organisations (SU and university) function, and how their work overlaps.

My line manager stayed in touch through regular meetings and emails, meaning that I felt supported and could come to them with any questions I had. This was really reassuring as I hadn’t had a job like this before. Having said this, throughout the internship I was encouraged to be pro-active and really made to feel like an equally important member of the team. My day-to-day tasks were really varied due to the different things I was working on. I could go from researching consent resources in the morning to editing a webpage in the afternoon, or from a meeting with society execs to reading academic papers. This meant I had loads to learn, including how to manage my time.

Even outside of my main tasks, the internship offered me lots of ways to develop my CV through training sessions such as minute taking, GDPR and educating post-16 year olds; using new digital tools including Sway, Vevox and Qualtrics. This was complemented by conversations about how the role related to my future career plans, and feedback on my application. During the application process I could tell that the interviewers valued the work I had done on liberation society execs.

Overall, I really enjoyed my time as the team intern because I got to work on such a broad range of projects and in an area I was passionate about.
