Changing Places Toilets
The University of Warwick is leading the way by having 6 Changing Places facilities across our campuses and is one of only a few Universities to have any, promoting independence and choice for disabled people with complex needs. Over a 1/4 million people in the UK need Changing Places Toilets to enable them to get out and about and enjoy the day-to-day activities which many of us take for granted. To use a toilet in safety and comfort, these people need to be able to access a Changing Places Toilet, which has more space and the right equipment, including a height-adjustable changing bench, a peninsular toilet with space on either side and a ceiling hoist. Previously, students who needed these facilities would have only been able to access the toilet in their own bedroom on campus.
The University has already installed 2 Changing PlacesLink opens in a new window facilities in the Sports and Wellness Hub, 1 in IBRB on Gibbet Hill campus, 1 in Warwick Arts Centre, a smaller Space to ChangeLink opens in a new window in the Mathematical Sciences BuildingLink opens in a new window with a wash & dry toilet and 1 recently completed in the new Faculty of Arts building. Across the whole country in 2019, there were only 18 Changing Places registered in pubs and restaurants. We have a total of 6 already and are considering some other locations, such as our Wellesbourne Campus.
Locations and Facilities
All of these facilities require a RADAR key for entry. You can get further information about the RADAR key scheme from the RADAR websiteLink opens in a new window.
Users must provide their own slings for the hoists. The sling compatibility type is listed under the hoist column. Hoists are for assisted use only, not for independent transfer. Please read the safety information, including safe working loads, in each facility before use.
