Accessibility Updates Vlog - Hand Sanitisers 22/05/2020
A quick video update from Jenny Wheeler Estates Accessibility Officer on her first trip back to campus, looking at the new hand sanitisers that have been installed around campus, including in the student residences.
The video shows Jenny, a blonde-haired wheelchair user with glasses, on her way to the accommodation block Jack Martin 4 on a sunny but windy day. As Jenny enters the accommodation main entrance, she shows the new hand sanitisers on the wall and comments on the accessibility considerations around their installation. She washes her hands (the video is sped up through the 20 seconds!) and comes back outside before bumping down the dropped kerb and heading back out onto campus to continue her day's tasks.
Video transcript:
My name is Jenny Wheeler and I am the Estates Accessibility Officer. I work within the Compliance Team supporting my colleagues but also focusing on the accessibility of campus. This helps out with the residences as well as the main buildings on campus as well as the public realm. I thought I'd give you a bit of a "Jenny’s eye view" today of what's going on on campus with what is quite a blustery day! My first stop is where everything began for me at Warwick. I was a student back here in 2012 and Jack Martin 4 was where I lived, so where better to come back to to have a look at the new hand sanitisers that have been installed? So as you can see, hand sanitisers have been installed at the entrance to all the accommodation blocks to make sure that people can keep washing their hands, and these have all been installed at a suitable height for if you're standing as well as if you're seated, like myself, to make sure that everyone is able to keep up their good hand-washing practices, whilst we are all being socially distant. That's my first job for the day done. Now I'm off to have a look at some other areas on campus where accessibility is also important, and *wheelchair bump* I hope that you have enjoyed my very quick tour of some of the things that I'm doing as Accessibility Officer.
