A46 Southbound resurfacing 21st Febuary to 25th April
National Highways resurfacing of this section of the A46 will include a much deeper treatment than usual which will significantly extend the life of the road, and reduce the need for future maintenance.
The work will be carried out using a combination of lane closures, full carriageway closures and a 24/7 contraflow system. The benefit of using a 24/7 contraflow system will ensure the A46 remains open for most of our work, whilst reducing disruption to the road user and local economy. NH will also be working on site 24/7 which will significantly shorten the overall length of time required to complete the work compared to overnight closures.
To complete the resurfacing, the 24/7 contraflow system will be in place from 6am on Monday 7 March to 8pm on Saturday 2 April. This will reduce the A46 northbound down to 1 lane running northbound, and 1 lane running southbound.
To install and remove our traffic management, and to complete aspects of the work safely, there will be times when they have to close the A46 both northbound and southbound including link road to M40 junction 15. Further information regarding dates and times for full carriageway closures can be found within the traffic management programme below.
The work is subject to change due to any unforeseen circumstances.
To complete work safely, a reduced speed limit of 40mph will be in place, along with speed enforcement and free recovery.
Outside of full carriageway closures and 24/7 contraflow, they will need to install a number of lane closures which will allow us to complete all remaining work. Our work to the most northern end of the A46 at Leek Wootton will include a simple diversion using the exit and entry slips, also known as a ‘down and under’.
While we work at this location, please expect long delays and avoid the area if possible. Alternative routes can be found using M5, M42 and M40 or M45/M6 and M1.
There will be restricted access for pedestrians wishing to cross the A46. The existing footpaths that cross the A46 through our work will be closed, and diversions signposted providing alternative access.
Please plan ahead, and allow additional time for your journey.
