Power outage across campus now resolved

Update: Wednesday 2 September 2026

The power outage that affected multiple buildings across campus earlier today has now been resolved, and services have been restored.

The outage was caused by a cable strike at Whitefields at approximately 11.20am, resulting in a loss of power to a number of campus buildings. Working closely with National Grid and specialist engineers, teams were able to restore power to affected areas by around 2pm.

We are pleased to confirm that power has remained stable since restoration and departments have reported that services are operating normally.

We know this disruption affected many colleagues, students and visitors across campus, and we're grateful for the patience, understanding and support shown while teams worked to restore services. Thank you to everyone who adapted plans and helped minimise the impact during the outage.

Although the immediate incident has been resolved, a review will now take place to understand the circumstances surrounding the cable strike and identify any lessons that may help reduce the risk of similar disruption in future.

Should you experience any further issues, please contact the Service Desk.
