Campus Building Developments

Capital Projects continue to progress with exciting new developments including early enabling works progressing on the Interdisciplinary Biomedical Research Building (IBRB), and shortly to progress on phase 2 of the Warwick Arts Centre and the new Faculty of Arts building. Careful planning will help us minimise disruption for students, staff and visitors until the developments are ready to use. Read on for more initial information.

Interdisciplinary Biomedical Research Building (IBRB)

Early enabling works have started on IBRB and will continue over the University Easter vacation. The IBRB will provide the School of Life Sciences and Warwick Medical School with a world-class environment including a 400-seat lecture theatre and new social and collaboration spaces. The IBRB will facilitate work to understand the origins of diseases in the body and brain, with the aim of finding new ways to extend healthy life spans. IBRB construction completion is targeted for the end of 2020 with occupation following in early 2021.

Warwick Arts Centre - Phase 2

Phase 2 of the Warwick 20:20 Project is due to begin over the University Easter vacation. You can explore the new spaces already complete – such as the theatre, the studio theatre, the music centre and a new creative learning space, and find out more about further developments to come– including the creation of a new building to house new cinemas, a large, accessible ground floor gallery and a new restaurant. Warwick Arts Centre will continue to be the region’s leading cultural centre – a place where creativity, collaboration and innovation thrives, and making it a key venue in Coventry’s year as UK City of Culture 2021.

Faculty of Arts

Enabling and mobilisation works for the Faculty of Arts building is also due to begin imminently with the closing and demolition of Car Park 7. The new Faculty building will create a space with a range of mixed teaching and study spaces, lecture facilities, a café and exhibition space for our entire community to enjoy. It will become a hub both for public engagement in the arts and humanities and for nurturing cultural values, and a space to unite all of our Arts departments. Work is expected to be completed to allow occupation before the start of the academic year 2021/2022.

Car park 7

This facility will close to enable work on the Faculty of Arts building, and drivers will be able to use alternative locations including the recently opened Kirby Corner car park (staff permit holders) and a new temporary car park at Cryfield Village (pay and display and permit holders). More information will be shared ahead of the CP7 closure. Preparatory works include some tree thinning in the area, and additional trees will be planted at this location and across campus to replace those removed as part of our wider campus planting scheme.

There are also additional construction works underway to develop a pedestrian “spine” route from the centre of campus to the new sports centre, improving pedestrian routes around campus. Please visit here for more information.
