Improving your spaces: summer 2017

This summer we collaborated with the SU to carry out major refurbishments in some of our buildings based on feedback from our students, bringing new and improved spaces and facilities to our campus.

Avon Building

PERFORM TO THE

BEST OF YOUR ABILITIES.

We’re in the process of reinstating the Drama Studio in the Avon Building as a rehearsal space, available to staff for teaching and student societies for practice. The refurbished will have a sprung floor and portable lighting rigs.

Underneath the studio, we’ve re-organise the existing rooms into 60 space teaching room with new audio-visual technology, a top quality editing and storage room for Film and TV students, and a baby changing facility.

We've added an all-gender toilet to the student hub.

Café Westwood

DIGEST KNOWLEDGE.

OR A SANDWICH.

THE CHOICE IS YOURS.

We’ve had a major overhaul of this café, turning it into a flexible space where you can both eat and study. It’s been completely refurbished, with furniture to support the two different uses, and now has a significantly increased capacity.

The Multimedia lab, originally located in the Graduate Studies Building, has been moved to this building, replacing the existing Reinvention Centre. When not in use for teaching, it will provide extra study space for our students.

To finish the area off nicely, we’re also carrying out some landscaping work around the building, and near to the Avon Building.

Ramphal Building

We’ve improved and redecorated all of the teaching spaces in Ramphal. Over the Christmas break we plan to remodel the stage area and improve the audio-visual technology in the 400 seat lecture theatre.

Other work on Central Campus

Millburn House has seen new furniture and improved audio-visual technology in several of its rooms. We’ve also installed extra study spaces in the Science Concourse, and the Humanities Building. Social Sciences has undergone some energy efficiency improvements, and some work to reduce the draught through the building.
