International Institute for Nanocomposite Manufacturing
The IINM building is a two storey building for WMG's Nanocomposite Manufacturing research facility.
The design was for a mainly factory-built solution to reduce the pre-construction and on site works, based on Portakabin standard modules for the office. The laboratories were set out in a U-shape and in-filled to create a double height Process Hall using traditional on site build via a local builder.
The building consists of research office spaces, both open and single offices with associated meeting rooms and storage, laboratories and process hall space.
It was designed through close collaboration between WMG, the Estates Office Design Team and the Portakabin team. Cullinan Studio were the project architects on the International Manufacturing Centre, IDL and IIPSI buildings which helped to shape the facility and integrate the design into our Academic Square.

In their words...
These are exciting times for WMG as we invest in another new development. The research and development expectations of industry are increasing and we need to be at the forefront of enabling them to develop world class products.
This is why we are creating the first institute, in the world, that will enable industry to manufacture large scale nanocomposite parts.
Professor Lord Bhattacharyya, Chairman of WMG
I am extremely excited to be establishing a world first at WMG.
Whilst the outputs from the IINM will directly impact industry, the research that will be undertaken will be rooted in fundamental engineering science.
Professor Tony McNally, Chair in Nanocomposites at WMG and leading the build of the IINM
