University House
University House Refurbishment
In the drive to reduce the University's carbon footprint University House, which is currently the universities highest carbon producing building, is to be refurbished. Approximately £18M will be invested in improvements to the building. The key objectives being to increase the comfort for building users and renew aging life safety systems, which will reduce maintenance costs and increase the potential for future investment in both the building and the across the University Campus.
Acquired by the University 20 years ago the building is now 30 years old, much of the original installations remain. The heating system is at the end of its serviceable life, the maintenance team works hard to keep the building heated and cooled, but the working environment is to be improved for the occupants. The building houses the professional and Administration services staff of the University, this project provides the opportunity to reconsider working practices and increase the capability of the building to house more staff supporting the Universities Hybrid Working policy.
Through collaborative working colleagues have successfully obtained grant funding of £2M to partially fund replacing the windows and providing air source heat pumps.
