Our Future Campus

Campus Experience

Since as far back as 1964, we’ve been developing our university campus with one goal in mind – to provide an inspiring place to study and work, as well as an exceptional campus experience. Our Campus Masterplan builds upon this. It provides a flexible development framework for the University to evolve and respond to future change, while being mindful of existing infrastructure and the environment.

Born from our 2009-2018 Campus Masterplan, four themes guide our developments. They have enabled us to shape our campus into an inclusive environment, with award winning sustainable buildings that help foster collaboration and innovation, as well as offer a world-leading destination for those who work, study and visit the University.

By 2030, Warwick will be one of the world’s exceptional universities. With this in mind, we are seeking to further develop our campus into a dynamic, innovative, inclusive environment – which creates new experiences and improves the lives of everyone around us.

Supporting our University Strategy

Our current Campus Masterplan supports our ‘Excellence with Purpose’ strategy. We envision a sustainable environment, which makes a positive contribution to our neighbouring area, as well as the wider world. We will embrace and enhance our connections with local communities, the West Midlands region, as well as nationally and globally, creating opportunities to access life-changing opportunities.

Our spaces and way of thinking will be dynamic and people centred. This will build upon our innovative world class research and research led co-created learning to foster a culture of belonging on our campus.

With our ambition to reaching net zero by 2050, sustainability will underpin this plan. We’re looking to:

Improve biodiversity in and around campus

Accelerate a shift to renewable energy generation

Facilitate a shift in the use of cars to other sustainable transport systems

Embed sustainable, energy efficient practice into day-to-day activity and all building developments

Campus Supplementary Planning

To achieve this a Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) has been developed. This takes the principles of the Campus Masterplan and shapes them into planning policy.

The SPD guides how the campus should develop through a series of capital projects, which we aim to deliver by 2033.

The SPD reflects the local plan policies in the adopted Coventry Local Plan 2011-2031 and the Warwick District Local Plan 2011-2029.
