Energy and Sustainability

Energy and Sustainability

We have grown our commitment to sustainability. We want to go beyond net zero: embedding sustainability into our curriculum, research, and campus operations, supporting campus biodiversity, and addressing global challenges.

Our campus will be made up of energy-efficient buildings, connected by biodiverse, green spaces. As we create new inspirational learning, working, and living spaces, we will set key environmental targets, and take action to minimise our impact by using sustainable materials and refurbishing where possible.

We want our campus to inspire and enable current and future generations to take the lead in tackling the climate emergency, and by working with our local, regional, national and international partners, together, we can make a better world for future generations.

Key aims:

  • Embed sustainability in our day-to-day activity: campus operations, building developments, research, and education
  • Net zero for all our operations by 2050
  • Realise ecology and biodiversity net gain
  • Accelerate a shift to renewable energy generation
  • Facilitate a shift to sustainable transport methods
  • Work with design solutions that minimise the environmental impact of new buildings in construction, operation, and demolition
