Carpooling

Carpooling: Liftango

As part of our transport and mobility strategy to provide you with a wider range of sustainable travel options and in partnership with Liftango, we are launching an exciting carpooling scheme which is climate positive and involves removing more emissions from the atmosphere than the journey generates.

Carpooling could save you money and time, reduce stress associated with finding a car park and help you meet people. Carpooling is good for the whole community; it reduces traffic congestion, helps improve air quality, road safety and reducing greenhouse gas emissions associated with commuting to campus.

    Climate positive carpooling

By choosing shared transport, our users are already taking decisive environmental action. In recognition of this determination to act, in partnership with the University, Liftango wanted to go the extra mile. Climate-Positive action involves removing more emissions from the atmosphere than you create in your carpooling journey.

Using trip data recorded in the app, CO2 emissions are calculated and rounded up to the nearest ton. Liftango are partnered with Pachama to offset the emissions of every trip made using their technology, offsetting slightly more than is needed. Over a year, that amount adds up. This takes the initiative beyond Net-Zero to Climate-Positive.

    Dedicated parking bays

There are a number of dedicated parking bays for carpooling scheme users only 24 hours a day. You will still be required to pay the appropriate tariff rates for parking applicable to you.

You may see the map below for details on where dedicated carpooling parking bays are on campus. Please note you must meet the appropriate parking tariffs to park in the specific car park where carpool bays are available.
