Loan Disclosures
- Loan information - information including a student's rights and responsibilities whilst repaying Direct Loans can be found on the US Department of Education's Federal Student Aid website.
- National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS) - NSLDS Link opens in a new windowis the U.S. Department of Education's central database for student aid. If you take a Title IV loan, we will submit the details of your loan to NSLDS and these will be accessible by servicers and schools who are authorized users of the data system. We are required by US regulations to regularly confirm/update NSLDS with your enrolment status.
- Entrance Counselling for Student Loan Borrowers - First-time borrowers will be provided with information on the terms and conditions of the loan including obligations and responsibilities as a condition of receiving a Direct Loan before the first loan disbursement. We require all students taking out a Direct Loan to complete entrance counselling - you can do this online at FSA Complete Your Student Loan Entrance Counselling RequirementLink opens in a new window.
- Exit Counselling for Student Loan Borrowers - Students who have received subsidized, unsubsidized or PLUS loan(s) under the Direct Loan Program or the previous FFEL Program must complete exit counselling before they graduate, drop below half-time attendance, or withdraw. We ask all students required to complete exit counselling - you can do this online at FSA Complete Student Loan Exit CounsellingLink opens in a new window.
- Private Loans - Please be advised to check the possibility of taking out a federal loan(s) before applying for a private loan as generally federal loans have lower interest rates and more favourable terms and conditions.
- Preferred Lenders List - The University does not have a preferred lenders list but will, where possible, work with whichever lender a prospective borrower decides to use. Currently, Sallie Mae and Earnest are the only lenders we are aware of that will lend funds for private loans to US students studying at the University. This is why they are listed as the only loans as being accessible on our US Loans information webpage.
- Code of Conduct for Education Loans (Conflict of Interest) - Conduct in relation to US loans prohibits a conflict of interest with the responsibilities of an agent of the school with respect to the previous FFEL Program or private education loans. All agents with responsibility for loans are informed annually of the provisions of the code which prohibits:
-
- Revenue-sharing arrangements with any lender
- Receiving gifts from a lender, a guarantor, or a loan services
- Contracting arrangement providing financial benefit from any lender or affiliate of a lender
- Directing borrowers to particular lenders, or refusing or delaying loan certifications
- Offers of funds for private loans
- Call centre or financial aid office staffing assistance
- Advisory board compensations
Completion, graduation and transfer-out rates
Information on the University’s retention rate is available from the Higher Education Statistics Agency, via HESA Non-Continuation Rates, and can also be obtained by contacting your department. Information on student body diversity, completion and graduation is also available from the Higher Education Statistics Agency and is included in the University’s Academic Statistics Yearbook in a summarised format.
Due to the very low non-continuation rate and the very small number of US Loan recipients attending the University, the University is unable to supply a breakdown of completion or transfer-out rates by gender, ethnicity or recipients of need-based subsidised loans, as this may reveal personally identifiable information about an individual student, which would contravene the General Data Protection Regulations.
For students receiving athletically related student aid
As there are extremely few scholarships linked to athletic sports the University will not disclose data about the recipients’ ethnicities, gender, transfer-out rate or completion rate.
Misrepresentation
The power to award degree is regulated by law and the University is one of the degree awarding institutions approved by the Office for Students, which is the regulator for higher education in England. The University’s degree awarding power is laid out in the University’s Charter and Statues.
The University is responsible for its academic standards. And the quality of the University’s teaching and learning is assessed by the Quality Assurance Agency (QAA). For more information see the outcome of the University’s last QAA review.
Drug and Alcohol Policy
As part of the simplification of the FAFSA process, the US Department of Education has recently removed the requirements for Title IV eligibility related to drug related convictions.
It is still important that any student who wishes to study at the University is aware of the University's policies and penalties associated with drug-related offences and alcohol offences. These are outlined in the Student Disciplinary Offences (Regulation 23) and Residential Accommodation Regulations (Regulation 27) in relation to living in halls.
