Recent Changes to the University Calendar
Revisions to Regulation 11
On 6 July 2022 the Senate approved amendments to Regulation 11 Academic Integrity: to better align with expectations from the Office of the Independent Adjudicator for Higher Education and reflect current approaches taken by the Student Casework and Academic Casework Team; and to prevent unfruitful escalation of cases to an Academic Integrity Committee. Minor amendments were also approved to guidance for people accompanying students investigated for alleged academic misconduct, to better reflect customary approaches.
These changes were noted by the Council on 13 July 2022 and took effect from the start of the 2022-23 academic year.
Revisions to Regulation 8
On 6 July 2022 the Senate approved amendments to Regulation 8 Regulations for First Degrees to ensure alignment with the Right to Remedy Failure which had been implemented in 2021-22 on a rolling basis.
These changes were noted by the Council on 13 July 2022 and took effect from the start of the 2022-23 academic year.
Revisions to Regulation 36
On 18 July 2022 the Vice-Chancellor approved by Senate Chair's Action, and on the recommendation of the Academic Quality and Standards Committee, amendments to Regulations 36 Student Registration, Attendance and Progress to ensure compliance with UKVI expectations in respect of students who are subject to immigration control.
These changes took place with immediate effect and will be noted by the Council at its meeting in the autumn 2022.
Revision to Regulation 34 Appendix A
On 11 July 2022 the Vice-Chancellor approved by Senate Chair's action, and on the recommendation of the Academic Quality and Standards Committee, the addition of the PGCE International Qualified Teacher Status (iQTS ) to the list of courses covered by Regulation 34 Determination of Fitness to Practise, set out in Appendix A to Regulation 34.
This change took place with immediate effect and will be noted by the Council at its meeting in the autumn 2022.
Revisions to Regulation 36
On 6 July 2022 the Senate approved amendments to Regulations 36 Student Registration, Attendance and Progress to update the assessment submissions deadline, ensure compliance with UKVI expectations and to permit withdrawal of students who have taken pre-sessional English classes and have not met the usual level of language requirements to be admitted to their chosen course of study.
These changes took place with immediate effect post Senate approval and were noted by the Council on 13 July 2022.
