Terms of Reference
Purpose:
To provide oversight, guidance, and direction on matters pertaining to social inclusion strategy, policy, procedure and practice across the University. The Group’s primary focus is on monitoring equality, diversity and inclusion objectives, policies, practices, and initiatives throughout the University.
1. The development and implementation of social inclusion policies (including specifically equality and diversity), procedures and practice that align with contemporary and best practices, legal requirements (Equality Act 2010 and Public Sector Equality Duty Requirements), and the strategic objectives of the University.
2. The development, prioritisation and implementation of initiatives and action plans that promote equality, diversity and inclusion, subject to funding approval as appropriate.
3. The establishment of key social inclusion metrics and benchmarks to monitor social inclusion-related data.
4. Measures to ensure compliance with the Equality Act 2010, with regard to the specific protected characteristics as detailed in the Act; to undertake the same with respect to other marginalised groups including in relation to socio-economic background, minority ethnic groups, care leavers and asylum seekers.
5. To report to the University Executive Board (UEB), and to Senate and Council as required and at least annually, on the Social Inclusion function Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), performance, trends, and recommendations for improvement to support the institution in meeting its KPIs and Public Sector Equality Duty Requirements, thereby providing assurance.
To recommend to Senate and Council, via UEB:
6. New or significantly revised policies relating to social inclusion, equality and diversity.
7. New University KPIs relating to Social Inclusion.
8. The Social Inclusion Strategy.
To receive:
9. Reports on social inclusion metrics and KPIs, performance, trends.
10. Reports on the experience of the University’s workforce and student body and to direct actions on identified trends where necessary.
11. Reports on the composition of the University’s workforce and student body and to direct actions on identified trends where necessary.
12. Reports as required from:
- Social Inclusion Team
- Relevant employee interest groups, via the Social Inclusion Team
- People Committee
- Student Success Subcommittee
- Faculty/Department EDI Committees
Reporting Structure
The Social Inclusion Committee reports to the University Executive Board (UEB), and to Senate and Council as required and at least annually
