VPN Connection

Connecting Off-Campus using the VPN Service after login

The VPN (Virtual Private Network) Service provides a secure method to connect to the University campus network regardless of where you are connecting from. This does not give you the full functionality you would have if you were connected on campus and the users experience will not be as seamless as an on-campus or and Start Before Login connection, but it does provide a secure connection for Remote Desktop, Software Center and receiving other changes from IDG. Please note that performance will be determined by your local connection.

Important: Any work that you save to your laptop will be stored locally and may be lost if the laptop has a catastrophic hardware failure or is lost or stolen. It is important that you make a backup whenever you work on a document without a network connection. (You could save to your OneDrive for business account or you could even create a second folder on the C: drive and make a copy of your data there).

Connection to your H: and M: drives will not be as seamless as it will be on campus or was with Start Before Login, and there is likely to be a delay until the connection establishes itself. It could be up to an hour for full connectivity.

A delay will also be experienced if you request a new application to be delivered from the Software Center.

Please Note: The VPN is now an opt-in service. For more information regarding the VPN service see here.
