New Warwick Awards for Personal Tutoring Excellence
To recognise and reward staff who have made an outstanding contribution to the support of students through personal tutoring, the University is launching the Warwick Awards for Personal Tutoring Excellence (WAPTE).
Louise Gracia, Dean of Students, said:
Personal tutoring is an important feature of the Warwick student experience, underpinning academic support and creating a space for staff and students to work together on students’ personal, learning and employability development. These new awards provide the opportunity to celebrate those personal tutors who provide outstanding support for students.
Up to three awards (of £1,000 each) will be made each academic year. Recipients can use this funding to support the development or enhancement of departmental personal tutoring initiatives, facilitate their engagement with the broader personal tutoring community, or support their research into developing understanding or practices around personal tutoring.
The new initiative arose from the University’s Personal Tutoring Review.
Making a nomination
Nominations for the Award are now open and can be made by staff or students. Nominations will need to detail how the nominee has enhanced the student learning experience through personal tutoring and championed personal tutoring at the departmental level. This could include engaging students in ways that inspire a commitment to their development; recognising and actively supporting the full diversity of student academic needs; and contributions to the development of departmental (or wider) initiatives that promote or develop personal tutoring and academic support.
See the Warwick Awards for Teaching Excellence pages for full details on WAPTE and how to make nominations.
