Overview

This workshop, held at the Palace of Westminster in London is delivered in conjunction with the Industry and Parliamentary Trust (IPT) and the Parliamentary Office for Science and Technology (POST).

Who should attend?
Visits held in September and November 2024 are open to colleagues from the Faculty of Social Science. Further visits will be arranged and open to colleagues across the university later in the year. Participants will need to make their own travel arrangements and approach their department in the first instance for travel expenses, but support for travel expenses may be available. Please contact the Social Science Impact Team to discuss this. Places are limited, please only register if you intend to go.

Workshop includes:

• Overview of Parliament - involves tour of the Palace of Westminster (subject to parliamentary business)
• Gain an overview of the legislation process and the opportunities available for influencing policy
• Gain an understanding of the role of Ministers and Special Advisers
• Identify the best ways of engaging with Civil Servants
• Gain an understanding on the role of Select Committees and the opportunities available for getting involved
