Research Integrity Online Training
What is research integrity and why does it matter?
Research integrity is an essential part of research. It gives confidence to others, including the public, that the methods and results of research are reliable, credible and trustworthy.
What research integrity training is available to me?
The University provides free-at-the-point-of-use access to a dedicated online Research Integrity Training Programme. The training is supplied by ‘Epigeum’ and hosted on Moodle. It integrates the principles set out in the Concordat to Support Research Integrity (2025)Link opens in a new window
The courses available are: the Full course, the Refresher course, Supplementary courses. The course(s) you should take depend on your level of study/career stage and your previous experience of Research Integrity training. Once you have determined which course(s) you should take, the links below will take you directly to that course on Moodle.

It is recommended that PGRs and early career researchers complete the core modules of the full version of the training.
This version provides a comprehensive overview of researcher responsibilities, guiding learners through the lifecycle of a research project. It takes approximately 250 minutes to complete the 8 modules.

Refresher Course
All staff and students delivering research are required to complete Research Integrity Training - those with prior knowledge, experience and understanding can complete the Refresher version of the Epigeum training. All three modules should be completed.
The three modules take about one hour to complete.

Supplementary Courses
There are six supplementary courses comprising: Conflicts of Interest; Research Involving Human Participants; The Care and Use of Animals in Research; Intellectual Property; Trusted Research and Export Controls; Research Supervision and Mentorship.
Each course takes approx. 15 minutes and can be taken by anyone who wants to learn more about the topic.

Alongside the required training above, there are three new courses specially designed for experienced researchers: the RIEX Collection. These courses are optional and can be taken by anyone who wants to improve their knowledge in these areas. Click the title of the course to be taken to the training on Moodle.
RIEX: Research Design and PlanningLink opens in a new window
This course focuses on building robust, transparent and funder compliant projects, addresses large-scale data integrity, GDPR and AI challenges and highlights reproducibility and open research expectations across disciplines.
The course is best suited for PIs preparing large grant applications, interdisciplinary project leads, senior data-intensive researchers and research managers.
The course contains three modules: ‘Strategic Project Planning’, ‘Data Integrity and Management’ and ‘Reproducibility and Open Research’.
RIEX: Ethical and Global Collaboration
This course equips researchers to manage trusted research, due diligence and global ethics, addresses geopolitical, legal and cultural challenges in collaboration and builds capacity for equitable partnerships and benefit-sharing.
The course is best suited for researchers in international consortia, PIs forming global partnerships, researchers in sensitive fields (e.g., defence, biotech, AI) and research managers.
The course consists of two modules: ‘Building Equitable and Trusted Partnerships’ and ‘Navigating International Collaborations’.
RIEX: Leadership and Research Culture
This course strengthens skills in shaping research culture, provides tools for onboarding and mentoring and equips leaders to model integrity in authorship, recognition and team dynamics.
The course is best suited for Heads of department, directors, PIs leading labs or research groups, supervisors/mentors and research managers.
The course consists of three modules: ‘Fostering Positive Research Cultures’, Responsible Leadership and Communication’ and ‘Preventing Authorship Issues and Resolving Disputes’.
Important Notice: The Epigeum Research Integrity training moved from being hosted on Epigeum’s platform to Warwick’s internal Moodle platform on Monday 31 August 2026. There are no changes to the content of the core training (the Full, Supplementary and Refresher courses). Please note that users who previously registered on Epigeum’s platform will no longer be able to access any certificates they have gained on the Epigeum platform. Users were advised to download certificates before this date and it is best practice to keep a personal record of your training certificates in a secure location. If you completed the training on the Epigeum platform and did not download your certificate but now require this, please email researchintegrity@warwick.ac.uk. They hold a record of users who have completed the training previously and will be able to provide a certificate for you. Please note that the training should be refreshed every three years, if you completed the training over three years ago, you will be asked to refresh your training.

Will I receive a certificate once I have undertaken this training?
Yes - certificates are provided upon successful completion of the course. You will need to provide this as evidence that you have completed the training when applying for ethics / sponsorship approval.
