REF2021 Impact Leave

The University has introduced an ‘Impact Leave’ scheme, for the academic years 2018/19 and 2019/20, to support the development of REF2021 impact case studies.

The scheme will provide leave for key staff where this is essential to fully prepare high quality impact case studies, and is entirely separate from Study Leave, not affecting the latter in any way.

Eligibility and HR considerations

Only those staff deemed eligible to be submitted to REF2021 and who will be contributing to impact cases will be eligible to be considered for Impact Leave.
Should any individuals granted Impact Leave be employed under a Tier 2 visa, the HR Immigration team must be notified by the relevant HoD.

Application process and deadlines

Applications should be made by HoDs to REFplanning@warwick.ac.uk for funding of a fixed sum of £10,000, which will be used by the Department to backfill the teaching of one or more named individuals.

The application form is attached and asks that HoDs demonstrate how the Department will use the funding (bearing in mind that it is to free-up time for individuals to construct their cases) and to provide an assurance that teaching quality will not be adversely impacted by the Impact Leave being granted.

Deadlines

Deadlines for consideration of applications for academic year 2018/19 will be:

  • 31 July, 2018
  • 30 September, 2018.

Deadlines for consideration of applications for academic year 2019/20 will be:

  • 31 January, 2019
  • 31 March, 2019
  • 30 June, 2019.

Applications will be reviewed by the Pro Vice Chancellor (Research) and the appropriate Chair of Faculty prior to consideration by the Provost, on behalf of the Academic Staff Committee. The decision of the Provost will be final and there will be no right of appeal.
