NIHR Researchfish Submission

The next submission period which will open between 6 February 2022 and 16:00 hrs 16 March 2023.

NIHR’s use of Researchfish

Researchfish® is an online research outcomes collection system that is used by research funders globally to track research and evidence impact. The NIHR uses Researchfish to collect information on research outputs, outcomes and impacts from the research projects and individuals we support and enable. You can find out more about how NIHR uses the information provided through Researchfish.

What are we asking NIHR award holders to do?

At the start of the submission period, NIHR supported award holders will receive a personalised email from Researchfish and will be asked to:

  • Register (if they have not previously done so) and link their account to ORCID .The NIHR is an ORCID member and use of this identifier with Researchfish will enable publications data to move between the two websites. For more information visit www.orcid.org.
  • Enter research outputs, outcomes and impact data for each relevant section. Researchers can use the delegate facility to support this.
  • Complete any additional questions that may be required
  • Ensure that inappropriate data is not submitted against their NIHR award, as it will be published in the public domain
  • Submit their data to NIHR by clicking the ‘Begin submission process’ button in the ‘My awards’ tab.

Our sanctions approach

It is a contractual requirement that NIHR research programme and personal award holders record and confirm the outputs, outcomes and impacts from their awards. If NIHR award holders fail to meet the contractual requirements, then NIHR may impose sanctions against award holders and hosting organisations which include:

  • the researcher or trainee may become ineligible for consideration for further awards
  • payments may be withheld on NIHR awards.

If an award holder is unable to make a submission in 2022 due to long-term leave from their research activities and there is no alternative arrangement in place, please get in touch (evaluation@nihr.ac.uk) as they may be eligible for a temporary exemption from submission.

Where to go for help and support

There are a variety of sources of further information about Researchfish:

  • Users have access to Live Chat in Researchfish from 9 am to 5 pm GMT (Monday–Friday).
  • NIHR’s use of Researchfish is described on the NIHR website together with answers to frequently asked questions.
  • Keep up to date by following @NIHRCommunity or @Researchfish.

The NIHR is playing a critical role in terms of funding, enabling and delivering research into COVID-19. The effect of the pandemic on our research community is hugely varied and ongoing. We fully understand that some researchers may have fewer outcomes to report at this time, but we would like to encourage NIHR award holders to report what outputs, outcomes and impacts they have achieved.

If you have any remaining questions you can contact the NIHR team, regarding any Researchfish completion/submission queries direct via email: evaluation@nihr.ac.uk.
