Deposit a research publication

Overview

  • Researchers should 'act on acceptance' when notified that their research is going to be published.
  • Create a record of the publication in the Current Research Information System (CRIS) Symplectic Elements (Elements), and add the accepted manuscript.
  • Summary metadata will appear on your profile in Elements and your public-facing profile on profiles.warwickLink opens in a new window
  • The file and full metadata record will be added to the institutional repository (WRAP).

WRAP

The university's institutional repository, WRAP, is integrated with Symplectic Elements, and data passes between the two. WRAP can be used to preserve and share outputs, browse or search for publications, and supports making your research open access compliant.

Why do I need to deposit my publications?

  • UK government and funding bodies expect institutions to enable open access to publications, data and research software, for reasons of transparency, public trust and value-for-money for the investment of public funds.
  • Outputs submitted to certain evaluation exercises, such as REF, must be open access compliant; depositing into the institutional repository ensures compliance.

What is the benefit to me as a researcher?

Showcase your research

Not only does WRAP host your research outputs in an easily-searchable, responsive and intuitive database, it displays it in an easily-viewable format, giving users quick and easy access to read your publications. WRAP's direct integration with the current research information system, or CRIS, Symplectic Elements, means that metadata relating to your publications is accurate across the institutional record, easily updatable and quick and easy to add to your researcher profile. WRAP accepts a wide range of outputs alongside the traditional journal articles and books, including (but not limited to) media, presentations, software, internet publications, designs, datasets and exhibitions.

Manage and link your profile, publications, grants, researcher IDs and records of impact in one place

Our current research information system or CRIS, Symplectic Elements, holds information from both Worktribe (our grants management system) and the institutional repository. In one place, you can deposit your publications, access information about your awarded grants, claim your researcher IDs to enhance the publications and grants data the system holds, and manage records of the impact of your research. Since all of this information is one place, you can add it to your internally-facing and externally- facing profiles with ease. Deposits on Elements will also update to your linked ORCID profile, reducing the number of profiles you need to update. The full lifecycle of your research is represented in a single place, rather than you having to maintain this information across multiple platforms to showcase your work.
